I am in incoming junior and planning on taking a gap year after I graduate. I could really use some advice for planning when I need to have the DAT taken by. Thanks!
"Take it before the application opens up so that you can see if you need to retake it early on."
"Some time your senior year so in gap year you can do postbacc/masters work."
"Take the DAT as early as you can! At the latest, August 2024 for the 2024-2025 cycle."
Plan to take it by the end of June/July, give yourself at least 8-10 weeks of full time studying."
Here are our thoughts. It depends on what you plan to do during your gap year. Are you planning on working, pursuing additional education with a postbacc/masters, or doing some other activity? If you are doing additional education, it may be helpful to wait until about March (a few months before the year that you apply) in order to get a bit more learning, but still early enough where you could re-take the exam if necessary. If you are working or pursuing something else, whenever you feel ready. You could take it as soon as you graduate, or wait until the March before the year that you apply. It really boils down to when you feel prepared and when you have set aside enough time to be prepared.
