Hello! I am 31 years old and would be 32 if I decide to pursue pre-dentistry (to become a dentist). Is this too late to start out? When I actually become a dentist which will be in my 40's, will it be financially lucrative still? I'm not just in it for the money but that is alot of schooling to not be financially lucrative. I ask also because if it's not lucrative at an older age starting out, I could become an expanded functions dental assistant which does some of the procedures a dentist does but for way less schooling. I don't know what I'm all up against in terms of student loans and insurance etc. Can someone shed a light on all this? Thanks!

Hey Sarah!
This is a great question! I would say it really depends on your goals. There are several things to consider here: Will a becoming a dentist signficantly increase you happiness?
How much will your tuition cost?
How long will it take you pay off your student loans? Would you be ok postponing retirement if required? How will this affect your home situation (significant other/family) Take all this into consideration before making your decision. In the end, this is really a personal decision.
Hope this helps!
Hi Sarah! It's never too late! I know finances can be a huge deterrent for pursuing professional school, but I think if you are truly passionate about dentistry and can see yourself as a dentist, you should go for it. You already have the experience, which is great as well. Also, there are definitely ways to ease the financial burden through scholarships/apply for programs like the military. Another option would be the dental hygiene path; assess which you feel would work best given your circumstances. They are both very rewarding paths!
